It’s that time of year again—everyone seems to be coughing, sneezing, or calling in sick. Although it’s hard to avoid exposure to germs, there are ways to protect yourself from them. A healthy immune system will help prevent you from catching the bug going around, even if you’ve come into contact with it. How do you develop a healthy immune system, you ask? By developing a healthy lifestyle, of course!
The immune system can be impaired by factors such as stress, inactivity, poor diet, or lack of sleep. To strengthen our immunities, we must first practice good nutrition habits—you are what you eat! Superfoods such as kale, salmon, nuts, and teas are all excellent choices to boost immunity. A second essential ingredient for health is adequate rest, which means going to bed early, maintaining a consistent sleep cycle, and sleeping an average of 6-8 hours per night. Last but not least, getting regular exercise—outside workouts give us the added bonus of fresh air and Vitamin D—is crucial to maintaining a healthy immune system.
