XC: Garza wins short-course race for Dons

Santa Barbara High freshman Ally Garza won a short-course race at the Ojai Invitational on Saturday, while teammate Jared Levy placed second in the boys short-course race.

The Ojai meet went to a new format this year, combining all CIF divisions into the same races, which included a new 1.9-mile short course.

Garza led start to finish in a time of 12:54.89. Levy’s time was 10:54.59.

Many of the Dons varsity runners raced on the three-mile course. Senior William Walter’s 35th place in 17.53.69 led Santa Barbara. Thomas Everest (50-18:12.07), Marco Hernandez (64-18:31.41), and William DeBruynKops (75-18:42.39) grouped closely behind.

Senior Izzy Garza was the top girls long course finisher for Santa Barbara (96-23:19.79).

Santa Barbara runs next in the Gold Coast Invitational at College Park in Oxnard on Friday.
