WWP: Santa Barbara improving despite losses

SBCC lost two more games at the Mt. SAC Classic women’s water polo tournament on Saturday but Coach Chuckie Roth says his team is improving. The Vaqueros were edged by Long Beach 8-6 and then lost to American River 10-4.

“I’m very proud of my team,” said Roth, whose club fell to 5-5. “We keep improving, however the scores don’t show that right now. We’ve made huge strides and will continue to get better.

“This is a great group of girls and we’re gonna have a great season.”

Kendra Carr tallied three goals and Addison Seale had two in the opener vs. Long Beach (7-1). The Vaqueros led 5-3 at the half, then got outscored 5-1. Seale, Maddie Brooks and Mackenzie Perez all had three steals. Goalie Mackenzie Richards recorded 10 saves.

In the afternoon game, Brooks had two goals and Seale, Nicole Cosares and Rebekah Carey made three steals apiece.

SBCC travels to L.A. Valley on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. with hopes of improving to 3-0 in WSC play.
