Sophia Trumbull blocked a point-blank shot with two seconds left in regulation, saving a 10-9 victory over Orange Lutheran for the championship at the Villa Park Girls Water Polo Tournament on Saturday.
It’s the first time the Royals have won the tournament.
San Marcos battled back from a 4-1 deficit in the first period. Brittany Prentice led the comeback with three goals.
Trumbull sparked the defensive effort with 10 blocks.
In the semifinals, Paige Hauschild tossed in five goals in a 10-5 win over Royal.
San Marcos improves to 6-0 on the season.
