Division 1 second-ranked Laguna Beach pulled away from Dos Pueblos in the third quarter and beat the Chargers 10-4 in a girls water polo tune-up before this weekend’s Tournament of Champions.
Despite the loss, DP received outstanding play from goalie Britten Vilander. “She had 16 saves and protected the cage really well,” said DP coach Chris Parrish.
Vilander also set up DP’s goals with good passes. Toni Shackleford scored two goals and Shannon Cleary and Ari St. Oegger added one apiece for the Chargers.
DP was down 5-2 before Laguna Beach scored three unanswered goals in the third period to put the game out of reach.
DP will play No. 2 seed Corona del Mar in its opener of the Tournament of Champions on Friday.
DP’s Channel League game against Buena was rescheduled for Jan. 31
