Cate gave perennial Tri-Valley League girls water polo power Malibu a tough match before falling 9-8 on Friday.
Senior Sophie Maes scored five goals to lead the Rams (3-1, 0-1).
“It was an off day for the Rams, but the silver lining is that the same off day only led to a one-goal loss to the strongest team in the league,” Cate coach Nathan Allredge said “As the girls get some conditioning under their belts once again and a bit more game experience, it will be a different story when the teams next meet.”
Cate next travels to Nordhoff on Wednesday.
