TRK: Oak Park takes two at TVL Track & Field Championships

Oak Park’s boys dominated the distance races to hold off St. Bonaventure and clinch the Tri-Valley Championship meet on Thursday at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.

The Oak Park girls defeated La Reina by a slightly wider margin 201-144.

Carpinteria finished third in both the boys and girls competitions.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Oak Park’s Patrick Thedinga triumphed in both the 1600 and 3200 with times of 4:29.61 and 9:50.42. Teammate Sahm Bazargan won the 800 and finished second in the 1600. Oak Park’s Ian Markham won three events, taking the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, and the pole vault for the Eagles.

St. Bonaventure was led by Lavan Alston’s double in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Alston broke 11 seconds in the 100 with a time of 10.95.

Carpinteria’s Bryson Frazer earned a league title in the high jump by clearing 5’11”. Frazer was second in the 400 meters, with teammate Kyle Millhollin placing third. Both of the Warriors’ relay teams placed second.

The Oak Park girls won nine of the 16 events competed.

Brittany Blackwell and Sarah Bucknovitz won two event each for the Eagles.

La Reina junior Alex Cerise set a new meet record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.33.

Gabi Montes De Oca won a league championship for Carpinteria in the triple jump. Montes De Oca’s distance was 31-05 3/4.

CIF qualifiers will return to Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 11 for the Division 4 Prelims.
