San Marcos opened play in the South Coast Girls Water Polo Championships with a win and a loss on Thursday.
The Royals opened with an impressive 9-5 victory over Coronado. Halie Johnson pumped in four goals, Hailey Gellert tallied three and Megan Bergthold added two.
In its next match, San Marcos drew Division 1 top-ranked Foothill and suffered an 11-3 defeat. Riley Heiduk scored two goals and Gellert had the other for the Royals.
