Kelly Purling stopped nine shots while Hailey Gellert and Halie Johnson scored five each as San Marcos’ girls water polo team defeated Buena 20-7 on Thursday for a Channel League win.
Megan Bergthold (4), Riley Heiduk (3) and Hannah Koper (2) were all multiple goal scorers, and Kelsey Gellert added one.
Johnson and Heiduk also posted a team-high five steals each and Heiduk was the team-leader in drawn ejections with four.
San Marcos, which improved to 1-1 in league play, travels to Laguna Beach on Friday.
“Our team is improving and begining to work as a unit; tomorrow will be a great challenge for our team,” said Royals head coach Brian Roth.
