Carpinteria’s first playoff game since 2007 a success

Carpinteria’s boys water polo teamed moved through Tuesday’s CIF wild-card round with a 15-9 victory over visiting Pacifica in the Division 6 playoffs.

Five Warriors scored multiple goals, including four by Cole Gill and three each from Ben O’Hara and Dylan Hathaway.

Carpinteria took a 7-3 into halftime but the game tightened up as Carpinteria led by only one late in the third quarter.

“We knew that they would make a run at us in the second half and that came in the third quarter,” explained Warriors head coach Bryan Swarm.

Pacifica closed the gap to one again in the fourth quarter but Carpinteria scored three straight to create a sufficient cushion.

The Warriors, making their first CIF appearance since 2007, will travel to La Quinta for Thursday’s first-round.
