Pizzinat, Nakano-West lift Royals with OT goals

Sean Nakano-West’s game-winning goal gave San Marcos’ boys water polo team its first Channel League victory on Tuesday in a 10-9 decision over Ventura that went to overtime.

The Royals won in their third straight match that needed extra time to decide. San Marcos outscored Ventura 2-1 in the two overtime periods as Emerson Pizzinat also scored in OT.

Seven different Royals scored in the match, led by Spencer Kemp, George Kuesis and Nakano-West with two each.

Ventura’s Bryan Lee led all scorers with five goals. The Cougars had the game’s last possession but the Royals defense came up with the stop.

“Obviously from the list of goal scorers it took contributions from every one of our starters as well as a huge lift off the bench from freshman George Kuesis to pull the victory out,” explained San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton.

San Marcos (11-2, 1-1) plays Santa Barbara in its next match on Thursday.
