UCSB defeated UCLA 11-10 in today’s semifinal of the SoCal Tournament and will face top-ranked USC at Dos Pueblos in the championship match starting at 5:20 p.m.

Derek Shoemaker’s game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter lifted No. 6 UCSB over the No. 2 Bruins for their second straight upset of the tournament. Shoemaker led UCSB with four goals in the match

“It was a huge win,” said UCSB head coach Wolf Wigo after the game. “It was probably the biggest win in UCSB water polo in 25 years.

“We took down the No. 2 and 3 teams in the country (this weekend). To get one of those in a season is a pretty good deal.”

It was UCSB’s first win over UCLA since 1992.

USC beat UC Irvine in the other semifinal 10-5.
