“I think our goalie really stepped it up and blocked some pretty big shots to keep us in the game and make it such a big victory for us,” said Dons junior Skyler Matthews.

Gio Goggia collected 13 saves and two steals in the game for the Dons (2-0).

“As a team I feel we played pretty well,” Matthews said, noting Santa Barbara’s balance and depth. “Everyone’s scoring goals. there’s no one really good player.”

Cristian Bridley led the Dons’ offense with three goals while Evan Robertson added two. Four other Dons contributed goals.

Matthews scored once and added a team-high three steals and three assists.

Santa Barbara plays again later this week in their own SB Invitational. The Friday-Saturday tournament brings 16 teams to Santa Barbara. The Dons are in Pool C with Sacred Heart, St. Francis and Vista.
