San Marcos’ season ends in loss to No. 4 Foothill

After defeating Godinez in a CIF wild-card game on Tuesday, the San Marcos girls water polo team was unable to get past Foothill, losing 12-2.

Foothill is the No. 4 ranked team in Division I and took a commanding lead in the first quarter of Wednesday’s game and went up 5-0.

The Royals did not back down and adjusted in the second quarter. Both teams put in two goals in the period and the score was 7-2 at the half. Hannah Koper and Halie Johnson scored for San Marcos.

Goalie Jenna Phreaner was able to frustrate the home team during the game and finished with 12 saves and three steals.

After the break, the Royals were unable to crack the Foothill defense and went scoreless in the second half.

San Marcos, the third place finisher in the Channel League, ended its season with a 15-15 record.

“It was a great season for us,” head coach Chuckie Roth said. “We overcame a lot of obstacles and improved as a team. All in all, I am very happy.”
