Royals knock off Buena in sudden death

Spencer Kemp gave San Marcos its first Channel League victory in exciting fashion with a sudden death goal in the second overtime period against Buena, to end the game at 13-12.

“I was really proud of the spirit of our team and the way they continued to fight until the very end,” head coach Jeff Ashton said.

Kemp and Kevyan Golizadeh both had four goals in the match, and Shane Hauschild added two more.

Kyle Hahn was unstoppable for Buena and finished with seven goals.

San Marcos started well and ended the first half up 5-4.

The Bulldogs came out roaring in the third quarter and scored five goals to go up 9-6, but the Royal responded with five goals of their own in the fourth.

San Marcos still trailed late, but Hauschild evened the score at 11 with 25 seconds left in the match.

Each team scored in the first overtime period, and Kemp dealt the knockout blow in sudden death.
