Oxnard’s Rice does it again, this time over Royals

Katie Rice keeps proving her worth to Santa Barbara schools during the early season, medaling for Oxnard in their third straight victory over a local school.

On Thursday, Rice’s 37 paced the Yellowjackets to a 228-295 non-league victory over San Marcos at Santa Barbara Golf Club.

Rice also posted the lowest score of the match in victories over Santa Barbara High on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week already.

Melissa Jewkes led the Royals with a round of 52. Brittany Peretiako was right behind, carding a 53. Emily Peterson, Kelsey Gellert and Gabby Garcia ranged from 62-to-65.

“Everytime they step on the course they are learning and improving their game,” Royals head coach Shawn Ricci said of his team. “Each day and stroke we manage to get a little better.  The girls feel they need to continue to work on hitting greens and fairways.”

San Marcos competes again in the Pirate Invitational on Monday in Santa Ynez.
