Monarchs impose rule on Chargers, 13-7

Mater Dei’s No. 1 boys water polo team knocked Dos Pueblos from CIF’s Division I playoffs on Wednesday, reaching the championship match with a 13-7 victory at the William Woollett Aquatics center in Irvine.

The Chargers were able to grab a first-quarter lead at 3-2 on two goals from Chase Racich and one from Sjors Van Alphen, but the Monarchs responded by building a 9-6 lead by halftime.

Kevin Cappon led Dos Pueblos with four goals but the Chargers could not regain the lead in the second half.

Dos Pueblos, the fifth seed, finishes its season with a 25-5 record.
