Cal Poly runners go 1-2-3 at Nite Moves

Cal Poly’s cross country team took over the podium at Wednesday’s Nite Moves. Mustang teammates Carl Dargitz, Michael Johnson and Andrew Ray swept the top three spots in the weekly 5k run at Shoreline Park and Leadbetter Beach, with Dargitz leading the way in 15 minutes and 14 seconds.

Johnson and Ray finished second and third, respectively. Neither could totally keep pace with Dargitz, as Johnson’s second-place time was 16:09.

In all, 256 registered competitors finished the 5k course.

Jeremy Vaa beat out regular competitor Adrienne Binder in the 1k ocean swim. Vaa’s time of 13:39 was just four seconds faster than Binder, who also did the 5k run and finished the aquathon in 14th place.

Chris Arntz captured the title in the 1k swim/5k run aquathon, using a strong run split to edge Norbert Hoehne. Karen Schultz was the top female performer in the aquathon and eighth overall, clocking a time of 42:20.

There are four more sessions of Nite Moves remaining in the 2010 season, starting with next Wednesday, August 25.
