The South Coast’s two undefeated prep teams are alive and well one week into the CIF playoff season, with Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team already claiming a spot in the Division I semifinals.
The boys soccer postseason isn’t as far along as Santa Barbara High’s boys soccer team plays its second-round match on Tuesday after routing Littlerock 9-0 on Thursday.
The No. 1 Chargers (29-0) travel to the Woollett’s Aquatic Center in Irvine on Wednesday to face Los Alamitos. Newport Beach and Corona del Mar clash in the other water polo semifinal with the winners meeting at the same place on Saturday night.
The No. 1 Dons (26-0-1) expect a tougher time of it in Tuesday’s Division II matchup at Chino Hills. Santa Barbara is still four wins away from a CIF title.
Dos Pueblos and Carpinteria host boys soccer games on Tuesday after first-round victories. The Warriors defeated Inglewood 2-1 on Thursday and won a coinflip for the opportunity to play a second-straight time at home. The Chargers, who defeated Knight 3-2 on the road in the first round, host Inland Valley League-champion Valley View. Both games are at 3 p.m.
Of the 23 winter sports teams that made the postseason, only seven remain. Five of those are soccer teams, plus DP water polo and Laguna Blanca girls basketball. No local boys basketball teams made it this far.
Both the co-champions of the Condor League are finding success in the girls soccer playoffs. Cate won a second-round match against New Community Jewish on Monday to lock up a spot in Friday’s Division VII quarterfinals. The Owls’ second-round match is Wednesday against Arroyo.
The Owls’ girls basketball team is home on Wednesday for its quarterfinal match with Hillcrest Christian. Tip-off for that one is 7 p.m.
