Chargers take down Royals 13-6

The Dos Pueblos boys water polo team, ranked sixth in Division I, defeated host San Marcos 13-6 in the Chargers’ regular-season finale on Tuesday.

“We played a pretty solid game for our last game of the season,” said Royals coach Jeff Ashton. “It was a strong effort to bid our two seniors, Travis Johnson and Sam Fearer, farewell and for our returners to build on for next season.”

Conner Cleary, the Chargers’ only senior, led the way with four goals while Tyler Lisea and Johnson each had two goals for San Marcos. Johnson also had three saves and three steals while playing a half in the cage. Chris Bebb played goalie for the other half and had eight saves.

“I think San Marcos played a relatively good game and some of their guys were shooting really well… It was good to see Travis in the goal. He’s hands-down the best goalie in our league,” said Chargers coach Chris Parrish.

DP will find out where its playoff journey begins when CIF brackets are released late Sunday.

“I’m really optimistic going into the playoffs. Even with (last week’s) loss to Ventura I think we’re set up for a good run in the playoffs,” said Parrish.
