Carpinteria’s girls water polo season started on the right foot with a 12-5 non-league victory over Santa Maria on Wednesday.
Brenda Rodriguez’s play gave the Warriors a strong advantage at 2-meters. Carpinteria played its hand well as Rodriguez scored a game-high seven goals. When the defense sagged on Rodriguez, sophomore Lili Castillo was there on the perimeter to score three goals while Kimmy Methmann and Leilanie Silva added one goal each.
The Warriors recorded 24 steals in the game and goalie Nicole Poulos blocked eight shots with five of those steals.
