Manny Nwosu scored four goals and added an assist in two games on Friday at the Cats and Hounds Tournament for Dos Pueblos. The Chargers delivered a 6-0 victory over Nipomo and a 2-1 victory over Atascadero.
Nwosu posted a hat trick in the first game as the Chargers scored four goals in the first 17 minutes of play.
Dos Pueblos, which improved to 4-0 on the season, experienced its stiffest challenge of the young season in the second game versus tournament-host Atascadero. The Chargers took a 1-0 first half lead but the Greyhounds didn’t back down and evened the score soon after the halftime break. Nwosu scored DP’s first goal on an assist by Anthony Solano.
“It was our first opportunity to see some real adversity and I was pleased with the way my captains and leaders responded,” said head coach Matt York.
Senior captain Jessie Jimenez came through with the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Alex Chang took a corner kick that floated to the front of the goal and bounced a couple ways before Jimenez connected.
Cheng scored a goal in the first game, as did junior Brian Gutierrez and Will Parker. Jimenez tallied a pair of assists against Nipomo.
Dos Pueblos is in the semifinals on Saturday.
