Kendra Carr tossed in a season-high seven goals on Thursday, leading SBCC to a 10-5 women’s water polo win over Palomar in the first round of the Southern Cal Regional at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
The No. 7-seeded Vaqueros won for the seventh straight time to improve to 20-12. No. 10 Palomar finishes its year at 14-12.
The Vaqueros built a 6-4 lead after three quarters, then dominated the fourth period 4-1. Carr, a freshman from Mill Valley, Calif., scored three of those goals. Mackenze Richards continued her solid play in goal with 14 saves, one off her season high.
Addison Seale had a goal, five assists and three steals. Maddie Brooks also made three steals.
“We started Lili Talkin for the first time this year and she scored our first goal,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “We also got a goal from Charissa Dorn and, of course, Kendra played her usual solid game. We were up 4-3 at the half and had a good halftime talk. We did a good job of protecting a two-goal lead, then opened things up in the last quarter.
“We’re excited to play Mesa again and we plan to play our best game of the year.”
The Vaqueros will take on No. 2 San Diego Mesa in Friday’s quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. The Olympians (24-2) edged the Vaqueros 9-6 three weeks ago at Cerritos College.
