WSoc: L.A. Pierce keeps Vaqueros quiet

L.A. Pierce scored in the 10th and 47th minutes on Tuesday on the way to a 2-0 women’s soccer win over SBCC in Woodland Hills.

The second-place Brahmas (10-1-6, 5-0-3) moved within two points of first-place Moorpark (6-0-2). SBCC (7-5-4, 2-2-3) is tied for third with Ventura.

The Vaqueros have been shut out in six of their last eight games.

“They scored on a defensive slip-up in the fifth minute and put in a 30-yard shot over our goalie’s head in the 50th minute,” said coach John Sisterson. “We had one clean chance in the first half and Baylee Vincent had a good try at a 25-yarder in the second half but it was saved.

Alex Camarillo, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, had eight saves for the Vaqueros. Pierce outshot SBCC 13-4 and 10-2 in shots on goal.

“It was a rainy day on a grass field that led to slippery conditions. We didn’t do a good job of managing the situation. It’s a tough crowd down there but that’s what we’ll have to face in the playoffs, if we get there.”

SBCC will host Moorpark on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
