DP’s Pickett named to U.S. U-20 squad for World Cup qualifier

Dos Pueblos soccer player Kiara Pickett has been selected to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s Team for the CONCACAF U-20 Championships in Honduras.

Pickett, a defender, is the youngest player on the squad at age 16.  She is one of 12 high-school aged players on the team. Eight collegiate players make up the rest of the 20-player roster. The coach is Michelle French.

The CONCACAF Championships (Dec. 3-13) is the qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup, which will be held next year in New Guinea. The finalists and third-place team qualify for the World Cup.

The U.S. will play Mexico, Panama and Haiti in group play.

In other soccer news, Santa Barbara High’s Alea Hyatt was invited to the U.S. Women’s Under-18 National Team camp at the Olympic Training Center in December.
