It will be CIF playoff madness in the Santa Barbara area on Saturday as two boys water polo teams and two girls volleyball teams play their division quarterfinal games at “home” and Cate plays an 8-man football quarterfinal on its field.
In a treat for water polo fans, Santa Barbara High and San Marcos will play a Division 2 quarterfinal doubleheader at the SBHS pool. San Marcos faces No. 3 seed Mira Costa at 12:30 p.m., followed by the fourth-seeded Dons taking on Damien at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s winners advance to the semifinals on Wednesday at the Woolett Aquatics Center in Irvine.
In girls volleyball, Division 4A top-seed and defending champion Cate plays host to Duarte in a rematch of last year’s final. The match is at 7 p.m.
At 6 p.m., Laguna Blanca is home to Shadow Hills of Indio. Shadow Hills is making its fourth straight quarterfinal appearance.
San Marcos lost a coin-flip and travels to Trabuco Hills in a Division 1A quarterfinal match.
In football, second-seeded Cate hosts San Jacinto Academy in a Division 1 8-man quarterfinal game at 1:30 p.m.
Cross country runners from San Marcos, Dos Pueblos and Cate begin their postseason at the CIF Prelims in Riverside.
