Scott Everman erupted for 36 points in San Marcos’ season opener on Tuesday night as the Royals routed visiting Pioneer Valley 74-34.

San Marcos was a class above the Panthers and quickly opened up an 18-1 lead in the first quarter. The Royals were knocking down their three-point shots and controlled the paint with a clear size advantage. By halftime the score was 51-14.

Everman wasn’t the only Royal to have a nice first game of the season. Senior guard Ryan McCarthy scored 19 points on only 10 field-goal attempts thanks to five makes from long range. Davis Schell’s eight points and energy made an impact off the bench while junior Thomas Hantgin drew praise from head coach Landon Boucher

“I don’t remember him shooting a shot in the game, however, his influence was significant. On the defensive end getting steals and deflections leading to easy baskets for his teammates and on the offensive end running the point guard position and being a solid distributer of the ball,” Boucher said.

San Marcos (1-0) plays again on Monday against Arroyo Grande.
