Maddie Brooks scored on a breakaway to snap a 6-6 tie in the first overtime on Friday and SBCC went on to beat Orange Coast 8-6 on the first day of the Cuesta Rabobank Women’s Water Polo Tournament in San Luis Obispo.
Addison Seale scored four goals while Kendra Carr had a goal and five steals. Mackenzie Richards made 12 saves in goal.
In the morning game, state powerhouse Riverside (11-1) handed the Vaqueros (6-7) a 12-3 setback.
“We played a great second game vs. Orange Coast,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “We were leading by two (6-4) going into the fourth quarter, then found ourselves in OT. We dug deep to find a way to win and our team defense was exceptional.”
The Vaqueros held the Pirates scoreless in the two extra periods and Brooks and Seale each scored a goal.
The Vaqueros will take on Long Beach on Saturday at 9:55 a.m. and then face host Cuesta (16-3) at 4:25 p.m.
