SBCC dropped a tight 10-8 women’s water polo game to powerhouse Mt. San Antonio on Saturday at the Ventura Tournament, then fell to defending state champ, Fullerton, 15-2.
Kendra Carr scored three goals vs. the Mounties (13-2) while Mackenzie Perez and Maddie Brooks had two apiece at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Mackenzie Richards made 12 saves and Addison Seale had three steals and three drawn ejections for the Vaqueros (11-9), who went 2-2 at the tourney.
The Vaqueros showed much improvement from the first meeting with Mt. SAC, when they lost 12-2 on Sept. 25.
“We played great vs. Mt. SAC, it was a one-goal game until they scored with 2:30 to go in the fourth quarter,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “It was a great weekend of growth and learning. This team is hard working and full of character. I’m excited about where we will be in early November.”
SBCC had just one hour off before taking on Fullerton at noon and Roth said his team “was pretty gassed at that point.” The Hornets (16-2) led 10-1 at intermission.
Seale had a goal and five steals in the afternoon game with Brooks and Richards adding four steals each.
The Vaqueros will take next week off, then travel to L.A. Pierce for a WSC game on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
