Kendra Carr poured in five goals for the second straight game and SBCC beat Cuesta 14-5 on Wednesday in a WSC women’s water polo game at San Marcos High.
The Vaqueros (9-7, 3-1) knocked off the Cougars (17-5, 3-2) for the second time in six days. They beat Cuesta 12-10 in the Rabobank Tournament at Cuesta on Saturday.
Nicole Cosares added four goals and goalie Mackenzie Richards had a season-best 15 saves and three steals. Mackenzie Perez recorded eight steals while Cosares and Addison Seale had three apiece.
SBCC, the defending WSC champion, is a perfect 5-0 at home in its two seasons of women’s water polo.
The Vaqueros scored six times in the second quarter and led 8-1 at halftime. Two of the Cougars’ goals came on 5-meter penalty shots.
“This was a great team effort, I’m super proud of the girls,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “We executed and showed patience on offense. The defense was anchored by Richards in the cage and Perez with eight steals.”
The Vaqueros will play in the Ventura Tournament on Friday and Saturday, taking on Cypress and San Diego Miramar on Friday.
