WVB: Warriors need four to knock off William Jessup

(ROCKLIN, Calif.) Libby Dahlberg pounded down 15 kills to help lead #16 Westmont Women’s Volleyball (14-5. 6-3 GSAC) to a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-14, 25-15) win over William Jessup (6-14, 1-8).

William Jessup jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first set. However, Westmont rallied by scoring 13 of the next 17 points to tie the score at 14-all. Still tied at 18, Westmont received back-to-back kills from Sarah McGough (8 kills) to go ahead 20-18.

After a kill from Jessup’s Jennah Richmond (9 kills), Taylor Beckman (8 kills) and Marissa Fuerst (7 kills) responded to give Westmont a 22-19 advantage. The Warriors picked up another point on a Jessup attack error then gave up two points on a ball handling error and a kill by Kassidy Huevelhorst (4 kills), cutting the lead to 23-22. After a Westmont timeout, McGough and Beckman teamed up for back-to-back kills to claim the first set for Westmont.

In the second set, Jessup never trailed. Westmont hit just .083 in the second set, committing 10 errors. William Jessup, on the other hand, produced a .300 attack percentage.

After a 10-minute intermission, Westmont came out more focused for the remainder of the match. Westmont hit .379 in the third set and .333 in the fourth set, committing just five attack errors over the final two sets. Westmont took early leads in both sets and never looked back.

The Warriors will continue their northern California road trip by traveling to Atherton for a one o’clock game with the Oaks of Menlo tomorrow.
