WSoc: Vaqueros, L.A. Pierce keep each other silent

SBCC had a handful of quality scoring chances on Friday night but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 0-0 women’s soccer tie with L.A. Pierce at La Playa Stadium.

It was the second straight 0-0 tie to open WSC North play for the Vaqueros, who won last year’s conference title with a 9-0-3 record.

Pierce (5-1-5, 1-0-2 WSC) is No. 1 in the RPI state rankings and the Vaqueros (5-2-3, 0-0-2) are No. 8. SBCC outshot the visitors 12-9 and each team had three shots on goal.

Goalie Alex Camarillo, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, recorded her fifth shutout.

“It was a competitive game and we had some great chances in the first half,” said coach John Sisterson. “Late in the half, Josefine Von Der Burg had a corner and the ball whizzed right past the goalie and several of our players.

“In the last minute of the game, Blayne Shoffit broke through for a good opportunitiy and Kaitlyn Saperstein also had a chance to score.”

The Vaqueros hit the road for a pair of 4 p.m. games next week – Tuesday at Moorpark and Friday at Cuesta
