Carpinteria got off the snide on Friday in a 42-14 non-league voctory over Santa Paula at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium. The Warriors earned their first victory of the season with a dominating rushing effort led by Rudy Beltran and company.

Beltran gained 188 yards on 15 carries and scored two of the Warriors’ six rushing touchdowns. Oscar Garcia found the end zone twice as well, with Mike Garibay and Jacob Garcide reaching pay dirt once.

The 42 points is easily a season-high for the Warriors, who averaged less than 11 points per game over their first five.

The Warriors benefitted from the return from injury by team co-captain Tim Jimenez. Garcide was another impact player who was on the field for the Warriors for the first time after recently becoming eligible.

“We changed up our blocking schemes a little bit against their defense and it worked. We broke a lot of runs,” Jimenez said.

Carpinteria leaned on the running game almost exclusively.

“We didn’t throw the ball much but it’s always nice when your O-line is clicking and you can move the football,” said Warriors head coach Ben Hallock.

Carpinteria (1-5) will host Cantwell Sacred Heart next week in the Warriors’ final non-league game of the season.

Santa Paula (3-4) won three of its first four games but has now lost three straight. The Cardinals take a bye next week before beginning their Frontier League schedule at home against Grace Brethren on October 23.
