A strong first quarter set the stage for San Marcos’ 13-5 Channel League victory on Thursday over Ventura.
The Royals outscored the Cougars 6-0 in the opening frame and led 11-2 after three quarters. The result moves San Marcos to 4-0 in the league standings with Santa Barbara slated next on Tuesday afternoon.
San Marcos had six different goal scorers led by Miles Cole’s four. Jesse Morrison and Adam Fuller found the back of the cage three times. Jack Palmer had 11 saves.
“We played a great unselfish game today. George Kuesis and Spencer Wood, who often are our leading scorers, really distributed the ball well today and we were able to really rely on Miles in center,” said Royals head coach Jeff Ashton. “In so many games Miles draws double or triple teams and opens up scoring opportunities for other guys that he probably doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. Today we did a great job of working as a team and getting him the ball.”
San Marcos, ranked No. 5 in CIF Division 2, is 16-5 overall.
