Carpinteria overcame the absence of two starters and held off Nordhoff, 12-11, in a Tri-Valley League boys water polo match on Monday.
“I explained to the boys that we only have two options: play through it or give up,” Carpinteria coach Matt Organista said. “They got in the right mindset and swam back out there facing their fears.”
In the second quarter, sophomore Jordan Perez stepped up and scored 3 goals and followed in the third quarter with two more. Juniors Eric Thornbourgh added two goals, including a beautiful backhand bar-down shot, and Forrest Van Stein put up two goals in the fourth quarter.
