Addison Seale collected five goals and three steals on Wednesday, leading SBCC to a 14-0 shutout of Santa Monica in the Vaqueros’ women’s water polo home opener at San Marcos High.
Seale, a freshman attacker from San Diego, has eight goals in the last two games for the Vaqueros (5-1, 2-0 WSC).
“We did really great, our counter work was awesome and our defense was incredible,” said the left-handed Seale, who pumped in three goals in a seven-goal first period. “It was great to have all these people supporting us.
“I’m super excited about this team. We’ve already improved a lot in our first three weeks.”
Nicole Cosares added three goals and Kendra Carr had a goal and three assists. Lili Talkin chalked up three of the Vaqueros’ 20 steals. Goalies Mackenzie Richards (3 saves) and Demi Ames (5 saves) combined on the shutout.
“We wanted to come out and work on the things we’ve been doing,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “We wanted to focus on our counter-attack and our spacing and I thought we did a really good job of that. We played like we practiced.
“Addison was ready to go in the first quarter and she’s a good player. We have a lot of good players. We’re young but at the same time, we’re unselfish. The reason she’s scoring those goals is someone else has two players on them.”
Roth said all his players got into the game and seven scored a goal. The Vaqueros led 10-0 at halftime.
“It’s great to play at home and the community really supports us,” Roth added. “There’s a lot of people out here who just love water polo, they don’t necessarily have someone on the team. We really appreciate their support.”
The Vaqueros will play in the Mt. SAC Classic on Friday and Saturday, taking on defending state champion Fullerton and host Mt. SAC on Friday.
