WVB: Warriors keep up dominant streak

EL CAJON, Calif. – In a match that featured a combined 18 team blocks, #18 Westmont (10-2, 3-0 GSAC) swept San Diego Christian (5-4, 0-3) in a Golden State Athletic Conference showdown by scores of 25-23, 25-10 and 25-18. The Warriors increased their match winning streak to nine matches. Westmont has now won their last 24 sets in a row and 27 of their last 28

The Hawks gave Westmont a difficult time at the net, tallying 11 team blocks including two solo blocks and five block assists from Molly Whitzmann. As a result, the Warriors posted an attack percentage of just .170, making 21 errors on 112 attack attempts.

The Warriors overcame, however, by holding San Diego Christian to just a .010 attack percentage with the Hawks committing 24 errors on 102 attempts.

Westmont’s middle blockers led the way offensively for the Warriors. Senior captain Missy Fuerst tallied eight kills and a .438 attack percentage while freshman Libby Dahlberg added seven kills and a .375 attack percentage.

Right side hitter Sarah McGough and outside hitter Taylor Beckman also notched eight kills apiece with McGough achieving a .316 attack percentage.

Junior setter Alexa Nestlerode posted 18 assists while freshman Amy Buffham contributed 15 assists and eight digs.

Tomorrow, Westmont heads to Phoenix to take on the Firestorm of Arizona Christian. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
