WVB: McCann, Beckman lead Warrior sweep

Outside hitters Jessica McCann and Taylor Beckman powered Westmont Volleyball (9-2, 2-0 GSAC) to its eighth win in a row on Saturday evening at Murchison Gymnasium. The Warriors defeated Golden State Athletic Conference newcomer Menlo in straight sets (25-8, 26-24, 25-11).

McCann and Beckman each produced a .348 attack percentage with McCann tallying 11 kills and Beckman
nine.

“Anytime my outsides hit over a .250 percentage, I’m thrilled,” said Westmont head coach Patti Cook. “From an outside hitter, .250 is a good percentage, .350 is an amazing percentage. I am proud of Jessica and the strides she’s made to keep the ball in play when she doesn’t have a full swing. She’s come a really long way in that and it is showing in her hitting percentage as she makes fewer errors.”

On Saturday, the Warriors tallied eight team blocks with freshman Libby Dahlberg involved in half of them.

“We have a really solid block,” noted Cook. “We have middles who move laterally very well and they have been closing on the block and not leaving splits. We have been working with the pin players on lining up with the hitter and they did an exceptional job of that this evening.”

Cook was able to get all 16 players into tonight’s match, including Emma Harrah who played in the third set. Harrah collected three kills on four attacks without an error.

“It was fun watching Emma come in for a game and make an impact with her energy and with her athleticism,” praised Cook.

After three games at home this week, the Warriors are preparing for one of their longest road trips of the regular season. On Friday, Westmont will travel to play at San Diego Christian. Then on Saturday the Warrior wagon will make their way to Arizona Christian in Phoenix.
