SANTA BARBARA, September 15, 2015 — Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara (GIGSB), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-changing programs to young girls, is pleased to welcome Coral De Alba as its new gymnastics director.

De Alba brings more than two decades of experience teaching, training, and coaching children and young adults in a gymnastics, dance and cheerleading environment. She began her career competing as a Girls Inc. gymnast, coming full circle to teach a new generation of strong, smart, and bold girls in the same setting where she realized her passion.

“At Girls Inc., each and every girl has her own inherent strengths and can become whatever she wants to be,” said De Alba. “This is where they find their voices, learn to value who they are, and uncover all the possibilities of who they can become. Through sports and gymnastics, I hope to encourage and instill in these girls a sense of teamwork, leadership, resilience, self-discipline, and persistence, just as it was done for me.”

A sports enthusiast, De Alba serves as head cheerleading coach at Santa Barbara City College, a position she has held for the last 14 years. She began her training at Girls Inc. of Carpinteria in the mid-80’s before moving to the Santa Barbara location, and spent six years as a competitive gymnast at Girls Inc., reaching optional level 8.

De Alba holds a B.S. in sports management from California University of Pennsylvania and an A.S. in athletic training from Santa Barbara City College. She currently serves as treasurer of the Ojai Valley Gymnastics Parent Group and the Ojai Valley Girls Softball Association.

She lives in Ojai with her husband, Danny, and their three children. Her 10-year-old daughter has also joined the Girls Inc. family of gymnasts, as a level 4 competitor.
