Mandel’s strong pitching puts GVS 10U Stars in section final

A solid pitching performance from Aidan Mandel led the Goleta Valley South Little League 10-Under All Stars into the championship game of the Section 1 Tournament.

Mandel allowed one hit in 5.2 innings, and Goleta Valley broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning and defeated Thousand Oaks, 5-1, on Wednesday at Sunset Little League in Oxnard.

Mandel struck out five, walked one and didn’t allow an earned run. Thousand Oaks tied the score on a passed ball.

Mandel gave GVS a 1-0 lead in the first inning. He doubled and scored on a single by Nicky Fell. Fell went 3-for-3, with a double in the third inning.

GVS took the lead for good in the third, when it scored  on a groundout by Cole Schoenwetter.

GVS added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The inning got off to a hot start when Evon Weeks singled for an RBI.

GVS plays in the Section 1 championship game on Saturday.
