WBK: UCSB women add a pair of rebounding guards

First-year coach Bonnie Henrickson has added two freshman players to her women’s basketball squad for this season.

Lena Ethington and Julianna Ramey, both 5-9 guards who can rebound, will join the squad in the fall.

Ethington played at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, where she was an all-league level player. She averaged 15 boards per game as a senior in addition to adding 10 points  and 2.5 steals per contest. Ethington was a co-captain for the Mustangs and ended her prep career with second-team All-CIF Division 4A honors.

Ramey hails from Lake Oswego High in Oregon. She was one of the Three Rivers League’s top rebounders. Ramey competed with the Oregon Elite during the summer of 2014 and helped the team to a 26-4 record and a pair of tournament championships. She overcame an ankle injury to play on the elite team, as she played in just six games as a junior. But in those games, she led her team with 19.5 points per game and 6.2 rebounds, while also averaging three steals.

Ramey was a dual sport athlete, as she played defense for Lake Oswego’s state championship lacrosse team.
