The Santa Barbara High girls water polo team has been recognized as a CIF State Academic Champion for the 2014-15 school year, the CIF announced Tuesday.
The Dons were one of 29 teams in the state rewarded for the highest collective grade-point averages, based on an unweighted 4.0 scale, in their respective sport.
The collective GPA for the girls water polo team was 3.93.
Santa Barbara will receive a banner, suitable for display in the school gym, to recognize the accomplishment. All nominees were their respective CIF Section academic team champions. Section offices forwarded their winners in all sports to the state office for consideration.
The Southern Section had 14 teams represented, followed by four teams from the Central Coast and San Francisco Sections. The North Coast Section and San Diego Sections had three teams, respectively, followed by the Central Section, Northern Section with one team each.
Members of the Santa Barbara girls water polo team are Siena Goggia, Alex Szymcjak, Kelly Adams, Jo Laraway, Lauren Duggan, Kristina Garcia, Jessie Brummett, Jessee Ransone, Georgia Ransone, Grace Raisin, Lara Kostruba and Kai Mcgeoy. The coach is Mark Walsh.
