GVB: Arroyo Grande rules 1st Laguna Blanca Beach Bash

A total of 13 teams from Arroyo Grande, San Marcos, Laguna Blanca, Dos Pueblos, and Santa Ynez took part in the 1st annual Laguna Blanca Beach Bash at Laguna’s Sand Volleyball Facility.

The team of Sonny/Kay from Arroyo Grande took home the first-ever title, defeating their teammates Lachmann/Walsh in the 21 point final, 21-13.

Laguna Blanca’s Phoebe Madsen/Laurel Kujan and Maddy Nicolson/Josie Doughty finished in a tie for 3rd, while the freshman duo of Kelly Bickett/Caylin Zimmerman finished in a tie for 5th with Santa Ynez’s Hannah Rogers/Alex Carlson.

Other local teams participating were San Marcos’ Lauren Orlich and Sarah Kang, Dannica Minnich and Audrey Baldwin of Dos Pueblos, and Hannah White and Sophia Fay from Laguna Blanca. Dos Pueblos was also represented by the teams of Minier/Holmes, Rexford/Mertens, and Bean/Johnson.

“It was a great pleasure hosting all of these fine teams this weekend at our Sand Facility. Since we chose not to participate in the AAU’s league this season, it was my goal to create our own schedule and play more matches than any of the local schools to provide the maximum amount of competition for our players. I also wanted to bring schools such as Arroyo Grande to our campus to compete, and this tournament provided us an opportunity to play against them. They have a very good group of girls, and I think our team will be competing with them in the years to come.”

This tournament also marked the conclusion of the Laguna Blanca Girls Sand season. The girls finish the season with a 10-1 overall record.
