PBB: Grace Brethren sets down Warriors

A string of defensive mistakes and a dominant opposing pitcher did not produce a winning result for Carpinteria on Wednesday as the Warriors fell 11-0 to Grace Brethren in a Tri-Valley League game.

It was the Warriors’ league opener while the Lancers improve to 3-0.

Grace Brethren’s starting pitcher Easton Lucas really limited Carpinteria. The Warriors managed to advance runners to third base just twice.

Diego Contreras pitched for Carpinteria and deserved a better outcome according to Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. Contreras and catch Toby Spach kept the Lancers off balance but the defense committed more than half a dozen errors.

“Diego did everything he could to keep us close,” Cooney reported “Additionally, the offensive approach against a really good pitcher was actually quite good. Unfortunately, we’ve gotten into a pattern of playing below our ability on defense. I believe the boys are determined to change the pattern and compete the rest of the way.”

Jose Carrillo had a double for Carpinteria’s only extra base hit.

The two teams meet again on Friday in Carpinteria.
