San Marcos’ girls set a school record in the 200 medley relay and won the Channel League Relays on Friday at Santa Barbara High School in the season-opening meet for the five league schools.

Maija Ninness, Amanda Hayes, Olivia Smith and Paige Hauschild set a new Royals record in a time of 1:50.74.

“We swam very well. I was impressed by how many swimmers stepped up in off events,” said Royals head coach Chuckie Roth.

Santa Barbara High’s boys placed third as a team to lead the Dons. The quartet of Cuyler Gabriel, Ben Brewer, Alex Roderick and Sevi Multin won two relays, the 4×100 IM and 4×50 Free. Freshman Evan Blix delivered a strong high school debut according to Dons coach Mark Walsh.

Walsh highlighted Jessee Ransone, Kelly Adams, and Vanessa Lytle from the girls team.

Both teams have dual meets next week. The Dons host Thousand Oaks while the Royals host Oxnard. Then the Dons face Oaks Christian on Thursday and the Royals take on Buena.
