San Marcos inducting 6 into Hall of Fame

San Marcos High is inducting six outstanding athletes into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday, April, 9.

The 2015 induction class includes Bradlee Van Pelt, Jeff Nelson, David Phreaner, Hillary Rack Chapman, Dennis Kittle and Kelly Schmandt-Ferguson. They’ll be honored at a ceremony at the Bacara Resort and Spa on April 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Bradlee Van Pelt (Class of 1999) was All CIF in football and soccer. Helped the Royals win the CIF boys soccer title in 1999. He played college football at Colorado State and in the NFL with the Denver Broncos.

Jeff Nelson (Class of 1967) was a first-team All Channel League selection in basketball and baseball. He went on to play basketball and football at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

David Phreaner (Class of 1984) was the Channel League MVP in water and continued is water polo and swimming career at UCSB.

Hillary Rack Chapman (Class of 1981) played on the boys golf team from 1978-81 and was part of three CIF championships. She played at Southern Methodist University.

Dennis Kittle (Class of 1964) was an All-Channel League football player as a Royal and played in college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He’s also coached football at San Marcos for many years.

Kelly Schmandt-Ferguson (Class of 2000) won three Channel League girls tennis titles. She attended Vanderbilt, where she played in the 2001 NCAA finals.
