PBB: Delgado dominates Villanova for Warriors

Sal Delgado and the Carpinteria Warriors neutralized Villanova Prep on Friday in a 5-0 non-league game.

Delgado struck out 11 batters in six innings of work before giving way to Diego Contreras who completed the shutout in the seventh inning. Delgado, a sophomore right-hander, surrendered just a single hit.

“Sal Delgado set the tone early. He had good command of three pitches and he showed some confidence and leadership on the mound,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney.

Jonah Spach put the Warriors on the scoreboard in the second inning on an RBI single that scored Jose Carrillo. Spach then scored on a sacrifice fly by Malcolm Gordon.

Carpinteria finished the scoring with a three-run fifth. David Martinez delivered a two-run single that scored Delgado and Nick Walker.

Carpinteria improves to 2-5 on the season.

“It was an important win for the whole group. Recent games have tried our patience and team chemistry. All of our boys have maintained a positive approach.”

The Warriors will now play four games in the Santa Paula Tournament before beginning their Tri-Valley League schedule the following week.
