Dons teams, Cardinals hosting CIF State games

Both Santa Barbara High basketball teams and Bishop Diego learned on Sunday that they will be hosting CIF State tournament games this week.

With both Dons teams scheduled for Wednesday there will be a doubleheader at JR Richards Gymnasium. The girls will play Sierra at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game against Mission Oak at 7:30 p.m.

Each Dons team was placed in the Division 2 bracket, and the girls received a No. 6 seed while the boys are No. 8.

Bishop Diego, fresh off winning the Southern Section Division 5A championship on Saturday, is at home on Wednesday against Bakersfield Christian (15-13). Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in the Brickhouse. The Cardinals received the No. 7 seed.

Santa Barbara’s boys (27-5) host Mission Oak (29-2) from Tulare. The Hawks just lost only their second game of the season on Saturday to Hanford in the Central Section’s Division 2 championship.

Santa Barbara’s girls (23-6) face Sierra (24-4), a school from the Central Section located in the Sierra Nevada foothills outside Fresno. The two teams have already played each other once this season. Santa Barbara routed the Chieftains 77-52 in December at the Righetti Tournament.
