BVB: Chargers sweep past Oxnard

The Dos Pueblos boys volleyball team earned their second victory of the season with a sweep of Oxnard on the road in a non league matchup on Tuesday night. The Chargers defeated the Yellow Jackets by a score of 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

“We had excellent production from our middles tonight and the boys are having fun while getter better every day,” said Chargers head coach Ehren Hug.

Dos Pueblos senior captain Mark Raphael had a good night from the service line with three aces to go along with his 25 assists and two blocks while setting. Elliot Brainerd led all attackers with seven kills, eight digs, and two aces while middle blocker Ethan Brier was perfect on the night with four kills on four attempts.

“Oxnard’s boys were scrappy as ever on the defensive front, keeping numerous balls alive from the back row,” added coach Hug. “However, we can always count on that hustle back there and I thought our fellas did a great job of playing until the final whistle.”

At the outside spot, Jack Burns was effective with 4 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 aces while Troy Gilbert came off the bench and earned two kills. CD Sullivan chipped in 3 kills and a block for the Chargers.

With the victory, Dos Pueblos improves to 2-2 overall this season. On Saturday, the Chargers will host the 40th annual Dos Pueblos Invitational at UCSB.
