WRS: Chargers earn No. 1 seed in CIF divisional tourney

Dos Pueblos received the No. 1 seed in the Northern Division of the CIF Wrestling Duals and will face Royal in the opening round of the team playoffs at Sovine Gym on Saturday at 11 a.m.

This is the first time Dos Pueblos has hosted a CIF wrestling postseason competition.

Sixteen teams will participate in the single-elimination tournament at DP on Saturday. The first-round matches begin at 11 a.m., quarterfinals are at 3 p.m., semifinals at 5 p.m., and the championship is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Dos Pueblos (6-1) is champion of the Channel League. Bishop Amat (15-2), winner of the Mission League, is the No. 2 seed, Pac-8 champion Righetti (9-4) is third and Coastal Canyon kingpin Camarillo (11-2) is the fourth seed.

The other league champions in the division are Pacifica (Pacific View), Highland (Golden), Santa Maria (Los Padres) and Thousand Oaks (Marmonte).

The at-large entries include Newbury Park, Pioneer Valley, Chaminade, Quartz Hill, Simi Valley, Ventura and Channel Islands.

The Dos Pueblos-Royal winner would meet either Pacifica or Newbury Park in the quarterfinals.

This is the 20th year the CIF-SS has conducted the one-day divisional dual meet championships. At the end of Saturday, six divisional champions will be crowned.
